Healthcare Eligible Expenses

What's covered and not covered...

Below are eligible and ineligible expenses for the Healthcare Flexible Spending Account.

Healthcare Flexible Spending Account

Reimbursed items cannot be claimed again on an income tax return. Please note: Insurance premiums are not reimbursed through this benefit. Premiums are covered under the group health and supplemental premiums benefit, not the Healthcare FSA, and are remitted directly to the provider on the participant's behalf.

Chard Snyder is also pleased to provide the EBIA's Health Care Expenses Table classifying over 300 common health care expenses as "qualifying," "not qualifying," or "potentially qualifying" for the Healthcare FSA, HRA or employer sponsored HSA. Numerous OTC items are included as well. Please click here to access this list or review the list below for some basic guidelines for determining eligible and ineligible expenses under your plan.

Over-the-counter items under the
Healthcare Flexible Spending Account

You may use your Flexible Spending Account to purchase over-the-counter items that are not considered a drug or a medicine such as bandages, wound care, contact lens solution, etc.

Effective January 1, 2011, Flexible Spending Account money may be used to purchase over-the-counter drugs and medicines such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen or cough syrup with a note of medical necessity (NMN) or a prescription from your doctor. A copy of the prescription or NMN for over-the-counter medications is required once a year for claims payment.
