HRAs & Wellness Programs Working Together
Employers can offer a wide variety of wellness programs to promote healthy living and reward employees for participating and reaching various wellness goals. Although some employers offer a stand-alone wellness program, employers can coordinate their program with other employee health benefit plans including Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs). When the wellness program is coordinated with an HRA, an employee who participates in the wellness program receives their reward in the form of a contribution to their HRA. The employee can then receive reimbursement from their HRA for their eligible medical expenses. Using an HRA to deliver a wellness reward allows the reward to be received and spent tax free.
